Implementing Presentation Patterns that Truly Work Across Platforms |
| Presenter:
Adam Grocholski
|
| |
| Abstract: |
|
Today's marketplace demands that our applications be available on multiple UI platforms (Windows, Web, RIA, Mobile). Is it possible to design our applications in ways that increases the effeciency of implementing them across UI platofrms? Yes, with the help of design patterns. In this session I'll discuss design patterns such as Model View Presenter (MVP) for building presentation layers that can truly be used across platforms. I'll then demonstrate how this pattern was used to build an application with Silverlight, WPF, and Mobile presentation layers.

A designer's view on Expressions Blend and Silverlight 2.0. |
| Presenter:
Lori Neff
|
| |
| Abstract: |
|
There is a plethora of tutorials on development in Silverlight applications. Our approach is to look at an application from a designer's viewpoint and discuss the opportunities (and challenges) of working with Expressions Blend to create a rich UI experience around an application. In this demonstration we will be building out a timeline application using Expressions Blend and Visual Studio.

Migrating a Data Aware WPF Application to Silverlight 2.0 |
| Presenter:
Mike Benkovich, Microsoft
|
| |
| Abstract: |
|
One of the great things about WPF and Silverlight is that they’re both built on top of XAML and with Silverlight 2.0 you can leverage the latest data manipulation capabilities of LINQ. In this session we’ll take a look at a basic WPF application that pulls data from a web service. We will explore VB.NET’s XML Literals as we work with the information. Then we will take that application and migrate it to Silverlight 2.0 and show how the security model and communications mechanisms impact the way we design and build applications.

Tips and Tricks for dealing with Data in Silverlight |
| Presenter:
Scott Davis
|
| |
| Abstract: |
|
Silverlight introduces a whole new realm of possibilities when we think about pushing line of business applications to the web. No longer is there a need to settle for the simple interfaces and limited usability of HTML. When we think about line of business applications, nearly all involve heavy use of data. Silverlight development leverages many of the patterns we would normally see when building distributed desktop applications. Unfortunately many of us who have spent years building traditional web applications may have lost, or never even gained, some of those skills. This session will focus on some of the fundamentals of asynchronous data access and update notifications. We’ll explore some data binding concepts in Silverlight with controls such as the datagrid, and implementations with the ObservableCollection class. Finally, we’ll explore tips for reducing network bandwidth for data transfers, and building/accessing a localized data store using Linq for objects.

Silverlight 2.0 allows you to kiss Javascript goodbye |
| Presenter:
Doug Nelson
|
| |
| Abstract: |
|
When most people think of Silverlight, the thoughts and discussions are all about rich media, WPF support, Flash replacements. While all of this is certainly a significant part of Silverlight, there is also a very rich backend sub system, programmed in the .Net language of your choice and running on the client browser. This provides a headless side to Silverlight that traditional applications can incorporate to greatly minimize the amount javascript coding required for a rich UI experience. This presentation will focus on Silverlight HTML integration, network sockets support and isolated storage support. Finally, nothing but .Net from the bowels of the enterprise to web client interface.
